This historic pub dates back to 1686 and it is believed that the two cottages originally next door were also an inn. In 1928 Edward Tyrwhitt Drake was forced to sell some of his property in Amersham which included the Swan Inn. Harriet Day, a local benefactress whose family had kept the Swan Inn for a number of years built a block of almshouses nearby.

Guests will be able to browse a new menu which includes a wide variety of freshly prepared classic pub dishes such as Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, daily fresh fish dishes and Homemade Pie of the Day. There is also a separate lunch menu offering freshly made sandwiches and salads, perfect if you’re just nipping in for a quick bite.

Look out for the blackboard showing today’s specials, and the thoughtfully selected range of delicious vegetarian options.

There is an extensive wine selection to compliment the menu as well as a variety of continental lagers. There is no need to book, just come in and we'll look after you. No meal is complete without a wide selection of drinks to wash down the food, with a range of cold premium, continental draught lagers including Staropramen, Amstel, Birra Moretti and the award-winning cask ale Timothy Taylor, a variety of bottled beers, draught wines by the glass or carafe, a selection of other wines by the glass or bottle, and spirits. Guests will receive fantastic, friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere and what’s more, there is outdoor seating for dining and drinking in the summer.

I went for a meal on a Sunday evening, a month ago. The surroundings were clean and pleasant, but it was noticeable that it was not particularly crowded - this alone should have rung alarm bells! We ordered our meals and after some delay they arrived. However my son, who ordered the Sunday beef, promptly asked for the potatoes to be warmed up, as they were stone cold and uncooked in the centre. My wife's potatoes were warm. I ordered a rare-medium sirloin steak, and was rather disappointed to find that not only did the steak have quite a large amount of fat, but was more medium than rare and also a little tough. In fact we all found the meats to have excessive amounts of fat. We then ordered desserts. My wife ordered a Summer Fruits with sorbet. However eight blueberries and two strawberries is rather pushing the summer fruit description! Also there was a considerable delay for the desserts - we were told that a machine had failed in the kitchen. All in all we were quite disappointed with our meals; the serving staff were helpful but it was also noticeable that we were not asked if we had enjoyed our meal, I think some of our comments (e.g. the cold potatoes) spoke volumes. I wrote to the manager of the Swan four weeks ago - sending him the details above, I have not received any reply. I have told several people of our poor experiences of this pub. When it first opened a year ago, it received good reviews; since then it seems the standard has fallen considerably. Other sites reviewing this pub come to similar conclusions. I would advise - DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB!
